Student Council Hosts Faculty Auction to Benefit Medicine in Africa

Going once, going twice… SOLD! Ever dreamed of playing Monopoly with Mrs. Orsi? Ever wanted to test your bowling skills against Mr. Powell? How does a drink from Starbucks 5th hour every week sound? Don’t worry PR, your wishes are your teachers’ commands because… It’s time for the PR Faculty Auction!

This year, Student Council has made an extra effort to involve Prairie Ridge in the community. All the money raised through this auction will go towards a non profit organization called Global FICCS.

Global FICCS is dedicated to providing free cardiovascular services, donating equipment and advanced medical training in Africa. Since 2003, FICCS has provided diagnostic testing, successfully implanted dozens of pacemakers and provided followup care to patients in critical need. To date, donations valued over $3 million have been distributed to Kenyan hospitals, community health programs and schools. FICCS health and education programs are tailored to assist populations in urban slum communities as well as in remote Masai villages.

By participating in this event, students will be helping to: raise money for medical equipment and supplies to improve health-care and education facilities, help children stay in school by providing them with food, books, school supplies and uniforms, and support women’s groups that empower and educate young women by teaching them life skills, like working on computers, sewing and sports.

So head to commons with your ID during any free period from Wednesday, February 26 to Friday, February 28 to place your bids. Hope to see you there.
