Veteran Support Club is one of Prairie Ridge’s newest clubs. Created just last year by PR student Lorenzo Massart and sponsored by International Studies Division Leader Mr. Terhaar, the club has already gained over 28 members and continues to grow.
When asked what Lorenzo’s motive was when creating this club, he stated how he has “always had a deep respect for veterans and people who served in the military.” He also noticed how many people in the PR community shared a similar respect for veterans based on the excitement seen at the yearly military night football games. With an open mind and desire to fulfill his own interest and the ones around him, he ultimately decided to create this club, figuring that “as a community, we could do more than just one night a year of repaying these individuals for what they have done for our country.”
Through selling custom-made Veteran Support Club T-shirts and hosting a fundraiser at Georgios’ pizza place, Lorenzo’s club has raised an astonishing two and a half thousand dollars. This money had been donated to Veterans Path to Hope, a local organization responsible for helping veterans in need.
The club has already planned out its next event to continue helping the veterans, “the Cans for Courage” canned food drive. However, your help is needed. Please bring canned goods from home and drop them in boxes by the front entrance of the school, Mr. Peterson’s room, or Mr. Terhaar’s room.
In the future, Lorenzo plans to do more community volunteer work and continue fundraising. If you want to make a difference and help support these individuals, you can follow the Instagram (@pr_veteransupportclub), volunteer, and suggest future projects to create a lasting impact on the people who served for you and our community.
