Another Four Years of Moving “Forward.”
After a long, bitter, campaign for both candidates, Mitt Romney and Barack Obama, the latter came out on top last night for another four years winning with over 300 electoral votes. Once the Electoral College results fell in Obama’s favor, he captured his success by tweeting: “We’re all in this together. That’s how we campaigned, and that’s who we are. Thank you.”
The advantage in electoral votes was largely due to Obama winning over the crucial swing states which both candidates had fought over so fiercely. However, the numbers came back with the current president winning Ohio, Iowa, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and New Hampshire, a very impressive outcome, and a much needed one for Obama to surpass Romney.
Counting continues today; however, current standings show that the president holds the popular vote at 50% while Romney has 48%, all of which could still change from Florida still being counted. Although this state does not signify much, the president has the edge over Romney with 49.8% over the latter’s 49.3%. Either way, it would be just adding numbers to include Florida after Obama’s already pivotal victory.
The President had a few words to say after his success last night, promising the American people that “the best is yet to come,” and stating that “Tonight, more than 200 years after a former colony won the right to determine its own destiny, the task of perfecting our union moves forward. It moves forward because of you.”
