PR Choir Performs at Disney

Over Thanksgiving break Prairie Ridge choir and band students traveled to Disney World in Florida. Everyone had an amazing time visiting Hollywood Studios, Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and Animal Kingdom. But one of the most memorable moments of the trip was performing in the Candlelight Processional. Katie Svehla says “It was so much fun to be in a place where you can truly feel the magic around you. Between performing in such a once in a lifetime event, to spending the trip with my favorite people, I wouldn’t change a thing.”

The Candlelight Processional tells the story of Christmas through the narration of a celebrity. The celebrity in the concert with Prairie Ridge was 5 time Grammy Award winner Steven Curtis Chapman. The celebrity is joined by an orchestra and mass choir containing both profession Disney singers and high school choirs. PR junior Audrey Peterson says “It was cool to experience singing these songs that we had prepared for weeks with professional singers, in front of an audience full strangers.”

But the performance was not the only thing on the students’ minds. At the same time, the state football game was happening. The score was checked and reported every five minutes! And during the rehearsal when Mr. Jensen signaled the thumbs up for PR winning the game the entire Prairie Ridge choir started chanting “State! State! State!” The other choirs and Disney employees were a little confused but still seemed to be happy for Prairie Ridge. The win made the performance even more special and exciting!
