After months of waiting Insurgent has finally arrived in theaters! This is the second movie in the trilogy, after the first movie called Divergent. The books have high ratings, however the movies are receiving mixed reviews.

The books take place not to far from here…Chicago! In this world, sixteen year olds are separated into 5 factions. Before they are separated they must take a test to see which factions best suites them. The main character of the book–Tris– is also taking this test but her results end up to be very different from the regular. This causes Tris many problems and eventually lead to her discovering the truth about her society.

In Insurgent, Tris changes from a shy girl to a strong woman. The book shows the many battles occurring in her head especially her dilemma of being brave or selfless. The book spends lots of time on this subject, making it an emotional experience for the characters as well as the reader. However, in the movie this emotion is lost. Shailene Woodley did a phenomenal job playing the part that was given, but there could have more done to enhance the script.

The others characters also did a great job acting. Tobias Eaton, played by Theo James, was also praised by critics. At this point in the story, Tobias serves as a “rock” for Tris–someone to keep her stable. Many critics felt like Theo James did a good job portraying this. Another character that caught the eye of many critics was Ansel Elgort. His dedication to the part could be seen through minor details, such as the way he runs in the movie. Elgort says this was because he believed that his character needed to shown as someone intellectual, not someone who can run like a “superhero.” The acting in this movie was well done, but reviewers agree that more could have been done on the script to add more intensity and suspense.
