My advice for underclassmen is to do your work and be kind to all of your teachers and peers. It’s easy to get distracted and procrastinate, but doing your work goes a long way. As for being kind to all teachers and peers: it’s not easy, but everybody deserves kindness no matter what they say or do to you.
I had a lot of good teachers and classes throughout my 4 years in high school, but my overall favorite has to be Creative Storytelling taught by Mrs. Powe. I love to write, and that class gave me—as well as every one of Mrs. Powe’s students—the opportunity to write anything from poems to short stories in a non-judgmental, safe environment. I highly recommend taking her class; Mrs. Powe is super kind and encourages all of her students to try their best.
Honestly, I’d miss my friends. While some of them are going to MCC like I am, some are going straight to a 4-year college or university, which means I might not get to see or talk to them again. I’ll miss them all terribly, and I wish them all the best as they take this next step.
