It is really, really difficult to choose just one favorite teacher or class. I really liked almost all of my classes, and all of my teachers. It is easier to like a class if you like the teacher, and it is easier to like a teacher if they like you. This is likely primarily because of my advice to underclassmen:
Do the work both in and out of class on time to the best of your ability. Ask questions when you have them. Teachers are more likely to bump you up at the end of the semester, and give extensions periodically, if you show that you are trying. And you are more likely to do well on tests if you do the practice.
I have evolved so much over the course of my time at PR. When I walked into the school for the first day of classes, I had just discovered that I had a tree nut allergy, there was no power at home, and during 4th hour, the school lost power. I was the one in the corner not participating in the ungraded group activity.
Now, I am much more vocal about my concerns surrounding group behavior. I probably wouldn’t go directly to someone and say something like “be my friend,” but I might get to know them if they approached me.
I joined robotics, and it was not a very functional team: a lot of arguing team members, team members doing nothing, coaches getting mad at coders for the builders hogging the robot, etc, etc. Sitting there anxiously awaiting (not the good kind) 4:00 pm so that I could get out wasn’t working. So I left. If a club isn’t working for you or doesn’t align with your values, leave.
