Being an immigrant, I felt like everyone who was born in the United States just fit in a lot better at school, and that, as someone who was new to the American school system, I wouldn’t be able to be as involved as they were. I was so wrong. I’ve tried almost every club at PR, was a loyal member of many of them, participated in challenges, did a lot of public speaking, was invited to special events, and was involved in countless things. If I hadn’t had the motivation, and first of all, the desire to do all these things, I would not have been able to. I am super proud that I really put myself out there these four years.
My favorite class at PR was DC Psychology, while my favorite teachers at school are Mr. and Mrs. Wadlington. They are so kind and understanding, and on top of that, they are super interesting people to talk to and a joy to be around. They’ve been like my school parents in terms of emotional support, and they’ve been rooting for me from day one. I will never forget all that they’ve done for me, and they will always hold a special place in my heart.
My advice for underclassmen is to enjoy the moment. We tend to focus on drama and all the issues we have, but by the time senior year came around for me, I realized I should have spent less time stressing and more time enjoying my four years. It may seem like four years is a lot, but time goes by extremely fast. Join clubs, talk to people, take lots of pictures, and make lots of memories. This doesn’t just apply to school. Enjoy your time at home, hang out with friends, and enjoy your teenage years, however you prefer to spend your time.
My time at PR taught me that hard work always pays off. I mean it. Performance improves with effort. Relationships improve with effort. You get over your fears and limitations through effort. I believe you should work both hard and smart for the best results.
