Freddie Freeman’s dominant World Series performance has come to an end with a 4-1 Dodgers victory against the New York Yankees. Freeman hit an astounding 4 home runs in the first 4 games of the series and cements himself in the annals of baseball history.
“Freeman has put on an absolute clinic,” said Prairie Ridge sophomore Zach Techen, referencing his hitting prowess and absolute showcase of baseball skills.
Freeman isn’t new to the atmosphere of October baseball, as he has participated in 9 playoff runs split between stints on both the Braves and Dodgers throughout his 15 year veteran career.
Notably, Freeman played with the Atlanta Braves in the World Series 2021 win during which he batted an amazing .318 average with 2 significant home runs in games 5 and 6, combined with his 4 in the 2024 series makes Freemen the record holder for most consecutive World Series games with a home run.
Freeman’s batting streak continued into game 5 where with a clutch hit in the top of the 5th inning he drove in 2 runs for the Dodgers leading the way for a game tying 5 run 5th inning and asserted Freeman as the undeniable pick for the 2024 World Series MVP.
Freeman’s power and finesse has stolen the attention of both peers and fans alike. NBA legend and Los Angeles Lakers starting power forward, LeBron James tweeted “FREDDIE FREEMAN WE ARE NOT WORTHY” praising the baseball star and fellow LA athlete’s efforts.
Prairie Ridge baseball player Jackson Costa donned him the nickname “The New Mr. October” originally christened for MLB legend and hall of famer Reggie Jackson demonstrating Freeman’s ability to consistently show up and show out during the Dodgers playoff games.
Freeman now joins an elite group of MLB legends who have all been honored with the title MLB World series MVP including household names like Sandy Koufax, Bob Gibson, Pete Rose, and Johnny Bench. Notably, Freeman also becomes the first Canadian born player to join this list of World Series MVPs.
The Dodgers took the series in a close game 5, silencing any doubt of the MLB’s 5th most winning franchise. This 8th World Series title can forever be attributed to Freeman’s now famous hot streak that brought home another title win to the so-called “city of champions.”
