Prairie Ridge students voted on their favorite shows through Instagram by picking “What’s Better?” The polls included Outer Banks, The Summer I Turned Pretty, Friends, Gilmore Girls, The Vampire Diaries, Young Sheldon, Suits, and Grey’s Anatomy.
Outer Banks and The Summer I Turned Pretty were the first two shows in the “What’s Better?” poll. Both are about the life of teenagers and spending time with friends, mixing in drama and romance to catch any teen wanting a nice summer show. Outer Banks came out on top with 56% of the 32 votes. Outer Banks brings more of a mystery/action approach with a clash of social classes competing to find a lost treasure. It seems as though the world is run by teenagers when watching this, and it truly shows the importance of the loyalty and trust that you should have in your friends.
The next two shows, Friends and Gilmore Girls, were put against each other because of their hometown binge-worthy vibe. Both shows bring romance and relationships into their everyday lives. These two shows got the most amount of participation on the polls posted, and this vote wasn’t as close: Friends won with 61% of the 41 votes. Friends is about six individuals that live across the hall from each other. It explores their different careers and all of the possibilities with their lives. It expresses the importance of those around you and shows that you don’t have to be related to be family.
The Vampire Diaries and Young Sheldon were then voted on and Young Sheldon barely won with just 55% of the 31 votes casted. The two shows are different but also have some similarities of experiencing something you might not be familiar with. In The Vampire Diaries, or TVD, the main characters have lived for hundreds of years and are constantly adjusting to the life they are now living. In Young Sheldon, Sheldon Cooper is such an intelligent person and is trying to fit in with the world around him that doesn’t advance as fast as him. Both shows, however, encourage viewers to never give up and to persevere through anything.
Lastly, Suits and Grey’s Anatomy were placed against each other. Both of the shows take place in a work environment and show a work-life balance along with the daily office life they experience. Grey’s Anatomy ended up winning with 60% of the 35 votes. The show focuses on the medical workforce and how different doctors learn and negotiate within their specific area of specialties. It also explores different relationships and the importance of friendship not only in your personal life, but also throughout your work environment.
Overall, the four shows that came out on top all convey the importance of sticking close to those that will support you. Every show has something for everyone to connect to. This is why these are the top four shows that students at Prairie Ridge love. Happy streaming!
