Entertainment Near and Far
As 2022 begins, people are seeking entertainment to fulfill the empty hole in their lives. Fortunately for them, live entertainment is opening back up in our community and far away.
During late February and early March, Prairie Ridge’s theater department will put on this year’s musical: Into the Woods. Ellie Jensen, senior and member of the musical, says, “I can’t wait to have a live audience this year. I’m excited for our community to see such a beloved story live.” It’s evident that performers are thrilled to be back onstage and Prairie Ridge anticipates what comes next for the Fine Arts program in our own community.
Moving on from Crystal Lake, Chicago is beginning to open up again. This includes Broadway in Chicago, comedy specials, and concerts. Broadway in Chicago is currently offering 22 shows in 2021 and 2022. Some more popular ones include Frozen, Hairspray, and Hadestown. Jade Ciezack, a senior who recently saw Frozen in downtown Chicago says, “this is one of the most incredible shows I have seen.” Seeing one of these shows would be a magical experience for all ages and an exciting way to spend a weekend downtown.
The United Center has also opened its doors to vaccinated individuals to enjoy concerts and sports entertainment. Some upcoming concerts in 2022 include Kacey Musgraves, Elton John, and Tyler the Creator. There are also comedy specials at the United Center that are sure to leave everyone laughing. For sports entertainment during the holiday season, The Chicago Bulls have five home games during the tail end of December and the Chicago Blackhawks have two more home games. The end of 2021 and the beginning of 2022 looks set for the United Center.
Netflix is dropping a new season of Stranger Things and also has the much anticipated satire Don’t Look Up, featuring a strong cast of stars. Senior David Llanes recommends this movie. “Every critique this movie receives proves the point the movie is trying to make, from celebrity obsession to technology addiction,” he said.
There are a myriad of ways to be entertained this coming year. Whether it be live music, a musical, or your favorite streaming service, our community and neighboring communities will deliver the entertainment we all need.
