PRHS Presents A Tale of Two Cities
Many are familiar with Charles Dickens’ classic novel, A Tale of Two Cities, but it’s a musical, as well? Yes! Come see Prairie Ridge’s heart wrenching performance of “the best of times” and “the worst of times” with amazing sets, costumes, music, and choreography!
A Tale of Two Cities is set in Paris and London during the late 1700s. The story follows the lives of two men, Sydney Carton and Charles Darnay, who fall in love with the same woman, Lucie Manette. With a revolution starting in France, there is chaos in the streets and life seems completely hopeless.
For the last three months, the directors and more than 200 students have worked hard on this fantastic production.
Senior Connor Pils, who plays the part of Charles Darnay, expresses that “every musical has its magic, but not every musical inspires change in its audience. A Tale of Two Cities can bring people to tears and make them ponder life.”
Director David Jensen chose this musical at a time when much of society is focused on trivial things. His hope is that this story will bring the audience members together to contemplate the past and realize how fortunate it is to live in America today.
The message of the musical impacts not only the audience but the cast as well. Sophomore Allyson Akerberg describes the musical perfectly in just three words: “beautiful, touching, exciting.”
There are exciting moments throughout the complicated storyline, which help the audience apply the theme of living in the moment with gratitude to modern life.
Connor explains that “it’s a beautifully written show, and the underlying theme rings true for everybody.”
Show dates are March 3rd, 4th, 9th, 10th, and 11th. Tickets can be purchased online here or at the door.
