Passenger: a Must Read for 2016
Filled with time travel, adventure, and a bit of mystery, Passenger by Alexandra Bracken is a must read before the end of 2016.
Passenger follows Etta Spencer, a virtuoso on the violin in modern day New York. Her entire life has been dedicated to playing, her end goal: debuting with the New York Philharmonic. The fateful night when Etta performs at the Met in New York, thrusts her into a world of the past.
Nicholas Carter, a sailor from 18th century colonial America, struggles against racism and his ties to a dangerous family. When Etta suddenly appears on his ship, their worlds collide in a whirlwind adventure across continents and centuries.
When first approaching this book I was a bit skeptical. With a Goodreads rating of 3.88 stars, and mixed reviews, I honestly had no idea what to expect. Passenger was the first time travel novel I have ever read, and it completely blew me away! Alexandra Bracken’s writing is crafted so beautifully, that you feel completely immersed in the vivid characters and settings.
The one component that frustrated me about this novel was the cliffhanger ending. Passenger ended in the middle of a suspenseful moment, making me want closure with the plot and characters. Instead, the ending opened up so many possibilities for new adventures, and new characters.
For those have read this fantastic novel, the sequel, Wayfarer comes out January 3rd, 2017. For those fans of Alexandra Bracken, look into reading her other dystopian trilogy, The Darkest Minds.
If you want a perfect fall book filled with different cultures, history, and time travel, then Passenger should be your next read!
