Who Won the First Presidential Debate?
On September 26, Trump and Clinton took the main stage. Many asked themselves after watching for two hours who won? Some felt Clinton and some felt Trump. Who really did win? Nobody knows due to the fact that television reporters from various networks had different winners. Each person can only go off of what they believe to be the true facts.
JOBS
Clinton started the debate off with the opening statement, “First, we have to build an economy that works for everyone, not just those at the top. That means we need new jobs, good jobs, with rising incomes. We also, though, need to have a tax system that rewards work and not just financial transactions. And the kind of plan that Donald has put forth would be trickle-down economics all over again. In fact, it would be the most extreme version, the biggest tax cuts for the top percent of the people in this country than we’ve ever had.” She started to talk about a tax system reaping rewards to people who are hard working. Also raising minimum wage to help those who work for the hourly minimum wage. In the end she did end up suggesting ideas to help everyone. Big and small businesses. People and our country.
Trump went next by starting with “Our jobs are fleeing the country. They’re going to Mexico.” Right from the beginning he wanted to inform everyone of what he believes to be happening. To summarize what happened Trump said places like China and Mexico are stealing our jobs. China devalues their currency hurting the world and they make everything at lower prices so we can’t compete. Also companies here are moving to places like China because it costs less. Trump wants to stop this and bring jobs back. Overall, Trump says this will be done by reducing taxes from “35 percent to 15 percent for companies, small and big businesses.”
ENERGY
Clinton started talking about energy next. Here is a little of what she said. First she compared her tax plan to Trump´s, claiming that experts found hers to be better without telling us which experts she’s using. Next she says, “we will have 10 million more new jobs, because we will be making investments where we can grow the economy. Take clean energy. Some country is going to be the clean- energy superpower of the 21st century. Donald thinks that climate change is a hoax perpetrated by the Chinese. I think it’s real.” Clinton goes on to talk about ”deploying” as she says a billion solar panels. Clinton believes this will help create clean energy to give power to the many homes in this country. She also introduces the idea of creating an entirely new electric grid. This she says will create new jobs, In the end though she doesn’t say what will happen to those people after the new grid is finished.
Trump goes next starting with, ”She talks about solar panels. We invested in a solar company, our country. That was a disaster. They lost plenty of money on that one. “ He continues to talk about the fact he believes in all forms of energy, but, gives the following statement, “but we’re putting a lot of people out of work.” He tells everyone that the Obama administration has made 230 years of debt in eight years. Meaning they nearly doubled our debt up to twenty trillion dollars. Trump also goes on to say we need to reward companies so they will expand their business thus promoting job growth, but he never says how. He just throws it out on the table. He might think to give companies money but this could be used in the wrong way, and we don’t know where the money would come from.
American Security
Next was the question concerning Security of America. Clinton started by saying “Well, I think cyber security, cyber warfare will be one of the biggest challenges facing the next president, because clearly we’re facing at this point two different kinds of adversaries.” She believes that we need to stop small and large groups of hackers. She also says Russia hacked the DNC.
As for Trump, “As far as the cyber, I agree to parts of what Secretary Clinton said.”
But Trump questioned Hillary’s statement about Russia hacking the DNC by saying, “I don’t think anybody knows it was Russia that broke into the DNC … it could be Russia, but it could also be China.”
Then, Trump goes on to say “look at what ISIS is doing with the Internet, they’re beating us at our own game.”
This then leads into Clinton talking about ISIS and how she has plans to beat them on her website. Trump had said earlier “It’s no difference than this. She’s telling us how to fight ISIS. Just go to her website. She tells you how to fight ISIS on her website. I don’t think General Douglas MacArthur would like that too much.” Trump then goes to say that she is sharing the plan with the world which doesn’t make sense.
In conclusion some people thought both did okay, while others thought they both failed at the debate.
