The scoreboard displays 70-0, the final score of the September 4, 2015 home varsity football game vs. Grayslake Central.

This past Friday, Prairie Ridge was looking to bounce back from a first-week loss against Cary-Grove. Their task, Grayslake Central. While bouncing back to 1-1 on the year, it feels like they’re 5-1. With the leadership of upperclassmen and dominant performances from younger players, the Wolves crushed Grayslake Central by a score of 70-0.

Things started quickly for the Wolves. Before you could blink, two touchdowns scored by Samson Evans and Zach Gulbransen had already been put up. Within three minutes, it was already 14-0.

A 36-yard reception by Luke Annen made it 21-0 Wolves. Quickly after that, another Evans run led to a score. 28-0. Then, on the opening kickoff, Grayslake Central fumbled. It was quickly recovered by the Wolves and run back for a score. 35-0 after just 7 minutes.

To top off an amazing quarter, running back Nathan Griffin scored a touchdown with just under 3 minutes to play. After just one quarter of play, the Wolves had it in the bag. 42-0. Matt Konopka, a fan watching the game, shared his excitement. “Honestly at first I couldn’t believe it.” He said. “Forty-two points is a lot for the whole game, but in just one quarter is amazing.”

After that, the “mercy rule” seemed to kick in. Though retaining their dominance, the Wolves points trickled in after the first quarter, as any more would’ve caused questioning as to why the score was run up to such a high number. When the final whistle blew, the Wolves had defeated Grayslake Central by a whopping 70 points.

We talked to Coach Schremp after the game on how he thought things went. “Football is all about preparation,” he said. “This year we have a group of guys who want to work hard, and I think we did a much better job of preparing than Grayslake Central.”

After the game, many PR fans left the game feeling jubilant. Never have I seen such a dominant performance in not just any high school game, but any football game I’ve ever watched. It was pretty impressive to watch the Wolves dominate out there.

Things are looking on the up and up, but the Wolves will be tested when they travel across town to face rival Crystal Lake Central.
