The Heir is Finally Here
Readers anxious to learn the fates of characters
Almost everyone has heard of the multi-million dollar stories Harry Potter, The Hunger Games and Divergent. But, another series is making its way to the top : The Selection by Kiera Cass!
The book is written from the point of view of America Singer. America lives with the label Five, which is the way her home country, Illéa, structures their society.Your caste number defines your way of life and what others think of you. With One is the highest and Eight the lowest, America’s family is always trying to scrape together enough money for a meal. In the first books, America is in love with a man, Aspen, from an even lower caste than her: Six. America, a singer for a living, thinks she knows how everything is going to go together. Her and Aspen are going to save up enough money, get married, and have a family. That is, until the Selection. Like The Bachelor, The Selection is a process where 24 girls are chosen to live in the royal palace and compete for the prince’s love. Against the odds, America is one of the few girls chosen to leave her family behind and perhaps become the Queen.
So far there are three novels in the series: The Selection, The Elite and The One. The last novel had the readers gasping for more. The novel ended beautifully yet gave the readers nothing in terms of after. All series readers are hopeful for the new novel The Heir. Sanjana Nath, a freshman who has read the series, said, “I am excited to see what Kiera Cass has planned for the next book! Her books are always so enjoyable to read and I’m looking forward to knowing the next part of the story.”
The Selection is one of those rare series where you just cannot get enough. The third novel, The One, had all the pieces sewn beautifully together, but all the readers were curious to see if the caste system got dissolved and if America’s relationship worked out. The newest edition, The Heir, is from America’s daughter’s point of view while she is looking for a husband. This is huge news! This idea is mind boggling and makes us yearn for the book even more.
Our hopes for the novel include a sneak peek at America’s family back home. Rumors exist that the caste system was dissolved, but we aren’t yet sure if that is true. It appears that the system was taken down by the prince, but foreshadowing in the third installment leads us to think that rebel forces seem to be fighting back against the idea. We all hope that the system is gone for good. If so, we hope the novel gives us insight as to how that life is better.
More exciting news for fans of the series: Warner Brothers has just won the film rights! If they do anything with them, we should have a movie on our hands by the end of 2018!
We have stuck with this series for a long time and now we are ready to see if there is a Happily Ever After. Our love for this novel is eternal, but it is seriously stressing us out not knowing what happens! As Kiera Cass put it though, “true love is normally the most inconvenient kind.”
