Girl Online: A Different Venture for Zoella
Zoe Sugg, a YouTube sensation, has recently written a book which is a little different for the 25 year old star.
Her novel centers around a young 15 year old British blogger- Penny. Penny gets the idea to start an anonymous blog after she realized she has many things to share but is too quiet to open up.
Penny lives in Brighton, like Zoe. Her best friend Elliot lives next door, but doesn’t go to the same school. He attends a private school while Penny attends a public school. Penny has friends at her school, but they aren’t nearly as close as Elliot.
Through a twist-turn of events, Penny’s blog soars but her social life falls. After embarrassing herself countless times, Penny’s life seems like it is breaking away. The boy she likes won’t ask her out, her school best friend is being a jerk and the worst moment of her life is shown on the internet for all the see.
Somehow Penny finds herself in America falling for the boy of her dreams. But once again, somehow everything gets messed up. Penny has to learn to find a voice and push back the critics.
Through a lighthearted read, Zoe captured the reality of life. She showed that life will embarrass you, but it will also give you something to live for. You will always have family, and if you’re lucky, a great best friend and boyfriend.
Zoe included lots of aspects from her life. She wrote about panic attacks, Brighton, blogging and more. She made sure to tell all of her readers that the book was not about her. It was just a story that she wrote that had a few things from her life tied in.
The release of this novel did include skepticism that it was actually written by Siobhan Curham as ghostwriter. Nevertheless, the book’s first week of sales suggest fans won’t mind.
The novel had me reading through the night and dwelling on it long after I read it. Anyone who is looking for a feel good book with a little drama, Girl, Online is for you!
