5th Annual Wolves Cup Invitational
Prairie Ridge hosts high school hockey tournament
This last Friday, Saturday and Sunday the PR Wolves Hockey Club hosted the 5th Annual Wolves Cup Invitational hockey tournament attended by 9 schools and included 12 teams at the Crystal Lake Ice House.
The school, DeMatha Catholic, came from as far aways as Hyattsville, Maryland to attend the tournament. There were several high ranking Illinois high school teams that also skated, including Glenbrook North and Providence Catholic.
Over the course of three days a total of twenty-six games were played between Varsity and Junior Varsity teams. Providence Catholic won first place over Glenbrook North 2-1 in the JV division with an exciting overtime followed by a shootout. In the Varsity division Glenbrook North won 3-1 over Culver Military Academy from Indiana.
“This weekend our club received many compliments from coaches, managers, and lots of parents,” said Doug Pierce, the club President. The tournament had many parent volunteers running the clock, handling tickets and check-in, selling raffle tickets, and providing refreshments to coaches, referees, and players. The tournament is one of the Hockey Club’s biggest fundraisers, which raised over $3,500.
“I thank you for your dedication to our team and the tournament. We couldn’t have done it without you… It truly was a success!” exclaimed Tammy Nobbe, the Team Manager. With only a Varsity team for Prairie Ridge, a lot of parents have had to give extra time and effort to get the most out of the season.
“The level of competition was high and the games were hard, but it was a lot of fun,” said Alexa Pretkelis, one of the two girls playing on the Prairie Ridge Wolves. Prairie Ridge, who has a very young team, finished strong with two wins and two losses. They hope to host the tournament again next November!
