On Monday night #1 ranked Notre Dame and #2 ranked Alabama came together for one game to decide who will be the ultimate winner of the BCS National Championship. It was a battle between two run and gun offenses as well as two powerhouse defenses.
“Roll Tide” has been a saying used since the beginning of Alabama’s school history. Throughout the crowd of 80,120 people at Sun Life Stadium in Miami, was this battle cry,as well as the booing from the Notre Dame fans. The fans had every right to boo, because their team was hardly on the field at all; Alabama was on the field almost 17 more minutes than Notre Dame!
The Crimson Tide started out fast and furious on their starting drive, scoring a touchdown, the longest drive ever given up by Notre Dame’s defense this season. Then came another touchdown. Then a possibly bad call by the referees on a punt return, then a touchdown. Yet another touchdown, and the score was 28-0 in favor of the Tide, who indeed were rolling.
At halftime going into the locker room Manti Te’o of Notre Dame was asked how Alabama was being so successful and what they were going to do to stop it. Te’o replied, “They just did what Alabama does.” Te’o was correct, and Alabama would give no mercy, finishing the second half and eventually winning the game 42-14.
Alabama running back Eddie Lacy was named offensive MVP, tallying 140 yards on 20 carries, one of the best performances of his career.
When Coach Brian Kelly of Notre Dame was asked about the game, SI.com reported that he said “We’ve got to get physically stronger, continue close the gap there. Just overall, we need to see what it looks like. Our guys clearly know what it looks like now – a championship football team.”
Notre Dame has a few stars leaving for the NFL and will need that toughness and stronger mentality to get back to where they were this year. As for Alabama, this team is already thinking three-peat and will start recruiting and practicing to get back to the place that this new dynasty has called home, the BCS National Championship.
