Being born with a knack for soccer is quite a gift. Just ask sophomores Luke Feetterer, Sam Reynolds, Nick Hoklas, and Josh Reichert. These players are the sole sophomores that not only practice with Varsity, but play in games and play hard. Feetterer describes this as “being a big step up (from JV).” Reichert said, “there is definitely more pressure on us, and everyone is so competitive.”
Having this competitive spirit and willingness to play pushes each sophomore to his limits, and nothing stops them from going out there and trying their best. This team has already clinched a number one seed in regionals. Hoklas “expects them to go pretty far into the playoffs” and Reynolds said “I think we have a great team and potential to be even better. Hard work and determination gets us as far as we can go this postseason. I have a feeling that we are going to be great!”
This determination is the main goal of their season, and they will go only as far as their passion takes them.
Where this passion starts is practice. Practice makes perfect, especially in this situation. Feetterer added, “There is a lot of seriousness around practices, especially during the day before a game.” Hoklas added, “You can always count on Nick Woodberry and Gio Miranda to give us a good laugh, but we still get work done.”
As on every team, problems can occur. how you react to these problems is what makes you great. Reichert said, “ we lost some starters from injuries and that hurt us but everyone needs to put their all into every game.”
When asked about the potential leadership next season, all four sophomores jumped to volunteer as team captain. Reynolds loved the idea: “Leadership is a huge part of my game, and I feel as if I can become a leader for this team in the future.” Feetterer and Reichert both really hoped for a chance as team leader next season as well, and finally, Hoklas said, “I would love to be a leader next year. It is definitely going to be a rebuilding year and it will be interesting to see how we do.”
No matter how the team does next year, we know that these four leaders are going to be ready to play.
