The fourth book to the series The Inheritance Cycle has finally been released! It took nine years, but it is finally complete. The first book in this series, Eragon, captured my attention and I couldn’t wait for the second book. The second book, Eldest, was a bit of a disappointment, but I remained loyal. When the third book, Brisingr, came out I was so glad I stayed with this series because it was amazing. But I have to say that the fourth book in the series, Inheritance, was a bit of a disappointment.
My reasoning? The characters’ personalities did a complete 180. How does Eragon go from being an almost vegetarian to being a person who loved the feeling of meat juices dribbling down his chin? How does Roran go from being a friendly and incredibly intelligent man into a guy that doesn’t care about innocent people’s lives? And when did the revolution against Galbatorix become a fight against the people the revolution was trying to save? Also, it seems extremely unlikely that Eragon, Roran, and a few other calm-centered peaceful people who hated killing, even in battle, would turn into war-thirsty monsters.
Overall, the plot was a little too far-fetched for me to handle. A few errors I can overlook, but completely forgetting some characters’ personalities? Leaving out important details? Or, worst of all, creating a weapon out of the blue that can defeat Galbatorix but is never mentioned in any other part of the series? Not ok in my book. So, in the end, I would give Inheritance two out of five stars.
