The rehearsals leading to this year’s Madrigal Dinner were very successful, according to co-director Elaine Cotter. Including a cast of around fifteen actors, the Madrigal Dinner was set in Old England, complete with kings and queens and a rather spoiled prince.
“It’s going really well. We’re all super excited and nervous, but it’s going awesome,” said the enthusiastic Elaine Cotter. Seniors Stuart Buthod and Elaine co-wrote and co-directed this year’s show. Both have been members of the madrigal choir at Prairie Ridge since their sophomore year.
The Madrigal Dinner is partly about upholding traditions; every year a special Yule Log holding candles is lit for the performances, certain songs are sung, and the dinner is ended the same way. These traditions lend a timeless feel to the performances. Said Elaine, “In the past, we’ve also given gifts to our singing partners (usually some kind of an inside joke) and the seniors write letters” to the new members.
Every character in the Madrigal Dinner was slightly unique: a love-struck Jester, a preoccupied Wench, a stumbling detective. An exciting new twist to the traditional plot was sure to please, and delicious food of the era was served on stage December 2nd and 3rd.
