Time Management Tips

Mrs. Gallagher’s Creative Writing seniors offer time management advice to next year’s freshmen

Time management: two simple words that hold the most important lesson of high school. Between going to school for 8 hours a day, after school sports, clubs, hours of homework, jobs, responsibilities at home, and so much more, life can get a little hectic. We as students are expected to be involved in all of this, while maintaining a healthy diet, get at least 8 hours of sleep, have close friends, care for our families, make money to buy things on our own, have good grades, get into college, be happy, oh, and remember to not go crazy. So we are here with tips to ease the anxiety and craziness of high school.

One of the most important things you can do is avoid overworking yourself. It is crucial to know your limits and not burn out. It may seem like you can do everything, but you are only human and it can eventually be too much.

Don’t over-schedule yourself because while at first it might seem like you can handle it all with ease, over time and with some stressful situations, it will be harder to handle. There are many students that are involved in sports and have a job and have hours of homework to do each night, but that, of course, isn’t for everyone. It can be very hard to juggle it all and still maintain a healthy balance.

Mrs. Boddy, PR math teacher, is one of the hard working and dedicated teachers at our school. We wanted to know her secret about how she gets it all done. She told us that, “every free period I have, I am working” and that students should be using their commons hours as a period to work on their homework and not just socializing. It will save a lot of time after school to spend with family and get a good night’s rest so they have the energy and brainpower to work hard the next day too.

Just remember to not over schedule yourself, set time aside for your studies, and always work hard. You are only human, just like the rest of us and humans can only do so much.
