One of the reasons I’ve never liked pop music is because much of it sounds the same to me. But I’ve always been told not to judge a book by its cover, so this is a review of Taylor Swift’s most recent album Red. Taylor Swift is a country pop artist that has risen in popularity
since 2006. This is her fourth album after her album Speak Now which received generally favorable reviews. The album itself has gotten a thumbs up from most critics. So what is the verdict of this album? Let’s find out.
Well, right off the bat we see some repetition. The album’s lyrical content is centered on relationships. There are no songs that aren’t even slightly related to happiness in relationships, break-ups, forgetting about relationships. According to The Guardian, she is, “fantastically good at regarding teenage life…” but I know I have spent my time in more than just relationships.
As for the instrumentation, there’s nothing special about them. It sounds a lot like any other sad country pop tune. In fact her more upbeat tunes use synthesizers, and that’s hardly country. To her credit though, Taylor Swift is a talented vocalist who sings quite well on this album.
Overall, the album is very bland and uninteresting. Her music is has also taken a turn away from country and into pop. Personally, I didn’t enjoy this album. But I don’t speak for everyone else. If I had to give it a rating, I’d give it a 5/10. If you’re a fan of Taylor’s music, go ahead and pick up this album.
