Boylan Repeat

Rockford Boylan gain stops Prairie Ridge at the quarter finals

Boylan beat Prairie Ridge, 14-7, in the 2010 quarterfinals and struck again  this weekend at Boylan High School.  Prairie Ridge (6-4) faced off against  Rockford Boylan (11-0) and had an upsetting loss with a final score of 21-17.

Kody Peterson, a tight end for the wolves, said “Man I hate to lose a game to Boylan like that.”

Hopes were high for Prairie Ridge going into the quarter finals with a 5 game winning streak .

“Prairie Ridge has 198 points, 28 TDs and over 2,000 yards in its five-game winning streak. The Wolves have been playing much faster on offense and have gained confidence” reported Lester Johnson of the  Northwest Herald.

With this confidence you would think the team should have played better. This was a big disappointment for the wolves to lose so closely to Boylan. Not all can be blamed on the players.

The coaches as well made key decisions throughout the game that lost it for them.

In the fourth quarter with not much time left and the fourth down, the wolves were geared to punt but instead Coach Schremp called a field goal attempt. This was very risky, given the fact that the kick was going to be into the wind.

The task at hand was too much for Prairie Ridge as they missed the kick and let up a touchdown that put Boylan ahead to finish out on top.

“We won three quarters of the game but lost the most important” said Steven Ladd, a running back for Prairie Ridge.

They had their goals set for state before they even got there.

“We were looking too far ahead rather than what was right in front of us,” said Danny Miekel, also a running back for the team.

The seniors on the team  definitely set an example for the younger athletes to carry on the tradition of wolf pack pride. It was still a great season to make it to the quarter finals. Way to go, wolves!
