Will Super Bowl XLVII have an intriguing story?
Everyone loves a football game with a good background story behind it… especially when it comes in the Super Bowl. Fans were at the edge of their seats for Super Bowl XXXVII when Jon Gruden faced the Raiders team that traded him the year before; or in Super Bowl XLI when Tony Dungy’s Colts beat Lovie Smith’s Bears, making Dungy the first African American to ever be the head coach of a champion team; or in last year’s Super bowl, when Tom Brady and the Patriots had a chance to get revenge on the same Giants team that beat them three Super Bowls earlier on a game winning drive by Eli Manning.
Well this year, there is a good possibility that there will be another interesting background story for the Super Bowl. The reason? Peyton Manning.
Peyton Manning’s decision to go to the Broncos is the best thing that happened to the NFL this year. He has made the Broncos legit super bowl contenders, which has opened up numerous possibilities for an intriguing Super Bowl game in New Orleans. Here are some of the most anticipated matchups:
Denver Broncos (8-3) vs New York Giants (7-4)
Peyton would play his younger brother Eli for the first time ever in the postseason. The outcome would help end the debate over which manning is better. This game would surely be a heated one.
Denver Broncos (8-3) vs Chicago Bears (8-3)
Not only would this be a rematch of Peyton and the Bears from Super Bowl XLI, but it would also be the first time that either Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall play their old team, Denver, since they went to Chicago.
Baltimore Ravens (9-2) vs San Francisco 49ers (8-2-1)
Another possible matchup between brothers. These brothers are considered by many to be the fiercest head coaches in the country. John Harbaugh, the Baltimore coach, and Jim Harbaugh, the San Francisco coach, would make sure this is a great game with huge plays and hard hits.
New England Patriots (8-3) vs New York Giants (7-4)
These teams have met twice in the past 4 years, and both times the Giants have came back to win with the help of a legendary catch that changed the outcome of the game. Tom Brady and the Patriots would be hungry for revenge as the Giants would try to hold them off one more time.
What makes a Super Bowl great is not how close the final score is. It is the story behind it. Any of these four games would certainly make this year’s Super Bowl one of the most historic ever played.
