Where to Go for Help Resources at Prairie Ridge

Mrs. Gallagher’s Creative Writing seniors offer advice to next year’s freshman class

Worried about not knowing what to do or where to go in high school? Don’t fret—there are countless resources in our school. Be sure to take advantage of them all. From teachers to online databases, you are sure to succeed at Prairie Ridge.

One of the places that I often visited while at PR is the numeracy center. There is a math teacher assigned there every period. All you need is a pass to go there. Even if you don’t have a direct question, it is nice to go there and do homework. The teachers will sit down with you 1 on 1 and help you understand the concepts. Mia Fiantago said, “it helps me focus on homework so that it’s done before I get home. Mrs. Boddy helps me by explaining concepts from a different perspective.”  You can also go here to make-up math tests. This is definitely a good place to be familiar with. Even if you are gifted with math skills, you can get a lot of use out of this room. Be sure to stop by ASAP and get familiar with the teachers. They want you to succeed. If you make the effort, then you will be successful.

Also, Mrs. Penn is a helpful person to know. She works in the faculty office. If you are ever in need of a teacher, you can ask her where they are and she will get them for you. Also if you ever need to get an assignment to a teacher after class, you can give it to Mrs. Penn and she will be sure that it gets into the right hands. Aside from being extremely helpful, Mrs. Penn is adorable and so nice. When asked what her favorite part of her job was she answered, “meeting all of the wonderful people and just helping out.” You are sure to see her at every school event with a cheery smile and some kind words to say. Everybody loves Mrs. Penn.

On the library website, we have online databases. These are helpful for any research you may have to do throughout the next four years. They are all credible sources. Teachers appreciate when you cite your citations with credible sources like the ones we have available for us. Madison Giglio said, “the online databases are extremely useful because they provide valid information for all research projects.” Never try to use Wikipedia for a source. Teachers hate that. Our school pays for the subscriptions to these databases, so be sure to use them when needed.

The College & Career Center is a very important place to get familiar with. Mrs. Steiner has so much information on colleges and careers. If you ever need info about a college, she is sure to have it. You probably won’t be visiting her until junior year. Prairie Ridge senior, Paige Onoyan, said that “Mrs. Steiner has really been a huge help in the college decision making process, she has helped me narrow down my choices by looking for scholarships and finding the right college for me.” It is never too early to start thinking about your post- high school education. If you have a certain University in mind then you should go to the College & Career Center and find the requirements needed to get in. It’s important to find out those numbers early so that you are on track to go to the university of your choice.

Our counselors at Prairie Ridge are extremely helpful. They will help you figure out your schedule for the next 4 years. Additionally, you can go to them whenever if you need to talk about anything. This is what they are trained and paid to do. They will help you through any crisis, big or small. Our school also has 2 social workers. These are people that you can go to for more personal problems that don’t regard academics. The social workers can help you get on the right track.

The support system at Prairie Ridge makes it impossible to fail. If you take advantage of all of the fantastic resources at Prairie Ridge you will be successful. Good luck and have fun!
