Superfanning to the Max
Mrs. Gallagher’s Creative Writing seniors offer advice to next year’s freshmen
Super fanning is one of the funnest activities PR or any high school has to offer. It happens year-round, and includes everyone who wants to be there. All you have to do is just show up!
Sports are a reason to get together with friends or go out and meet new friends; sports are a reason to get out of the house and watch something fun; sports are something that create awesome and forever lasting memories that will last a life time. It includes everyone, it takes place year-round, it happens right here in school, and it’s probably the most simple of activities PR has to offer! And all you really have to do is show up, cheer, and watch the game!
As cliche and cheesy as it sounds, we’re all in this together because we attend the same school!
It’s all about school pride and being unified under one mascot and one school, and there is no single other way better than superfanning as one student body at sporting events.
But it’s more than just showing up and cheering at events.
Dr. Koch, our principal, says that the essence of being a super fan is getting other fans involved and excited, whether you are “promoting an event, raising the volume, or getting other students into the excitement.” As for getting fans excited, it can range from simple acts like participating in a cheer or wearing maroon on game day, to blasting music from a beatbox or running out of throughout the hallways or go all-out dressing up in costumes to pump people up! (Trust us when we say that these insane acts of blasting music or acting like a fool during school is really encouraged and loved on game day, everyone will love you for it!).
Aside from the fan’s point of view, having tremendous amounts of fans at games really helps the athletes or participants in ways nothing else can. Everyone loves support, whether you’re playing in a game or playing at a concert, and there’s nothing like returning the favor for your fellow classmates and peers who worked hard to get to where they’re at.
Mrs. Boddy, PR math teacher remarked, that true super-fans “support all teams, not just the popular ones!” Everyone attends the baseball, football and basketball games, but try out the lesser-attended ones like softball, volleyball, soccer, etc! These athletes try just as hard, and what most students don’t think or realize is that these sports are just as fun to attend because the essence of super-fanning for these sports is the same as football and basketball.
Super fanning is an essential part of any high-school experience, and just like many things in life, you get out what you put in. The more you participate, the more you dress up, the more you cheer, the more you will have fun and you will get more out of your high school experience! It might be hard as freshmen to feel comfortable being part of a group of upperclassmen cheering at sporting events, but they will welcome you with open arms.

Super fanning. It’s arguably the most favored activity here at Prairie Ridge. And why wouldn’t it be? All you have to do is show up, watch the game, and cheer. Some people are just there to watch the game, which is great too, but cheering with all of your friends just makes it that much better. If people were just there to watch, it’d get pretty boring. Super fanning also helps the team; it gets them motivated and makes them feel important –which in return wins games– so we can super fan longer. It’s also one of easiest and most fun ways to meet new people possibly creating lasting friendships. Even if the team loses the game it’s still a great time. Though winning is always better.
