College, trade schools, military and more… students are stuck between looking forward to the future and not wanting to move on from the many memories shared.

Seniors are encountering the homestretch of their high school career, and what comes next is up to them. Along with new doors opening comes the feelings of anticipation for the future and sadness to leave everything behind.

Senior Arienne Weil, who will be attending Illinois State in the fall says “wanted to experience… living on [her] own while getting an education at the same time.”

With that being said, she also talked about how she is sad to leave Prairie Ridge.

Arienne states, “I felt like everyone here became really close, and it’s sad that we may never see them again.”

While taking the next step is upsetting for some, others think it will push them forward.

Zack Ermey-Kline, soon to be PR graduate, is going into music abroad. He said he chose not to go to a college because “[He’s] sick of people telling [him] what to do.”

His thoughts on high school? “I’m excited to do what I want, play music. I felt like high school was holding me back.” He also explains that “high school is geared more towards the business world other than the creative side.”

Zack’s not the only student choosing something other than college next year.

Prairie Ridge senior Atticus Moreschi chose to enlist in the United States Marine Corps. He decided to take this path because he is ¨up for the challenge and excited for something new.”

He makes it clear he will not miss high school by saying, “I don’t like school.”

On the other hand, some students are choosing to further their education with college.

Senior Shannon Freund, also attending ISU next year says, “I’m excited to move on. I’ve been in high school for four years, and it’s time for something new.”

When asked why she chose college over a different option, she responded, “I want to get an education to get a career in the future.”

These four seniors with different futures and opinions shared their thoughts about what’s to come. Shannon sums it up when she says, “I know I will make more memories when I go to college.”
