Girls Basketball Spotlight

The winter season is starting and girls basketball is up and running. The girls basketball teams are getting ready for their first game.

Junior Melissa Bear, guard, believes that “We have a chance to go farther than any Prairie Ridge Ladies Basketball team.”

I asked Emily Perhats, a sophomore, if she wished more fans would come to the games. She said “I do wish more students would come support. I think we would have more momentum as we play with more student fans.”

Aly Clark, a senior, said she was “excited for everything because it’s senior year and everything is our last time.” Aly is a hard worker, and she said that “she doesn’t care about how many fans show up. She said she plays just for the love of the game.”

In girls’ basketball there are certain moments in the season that stand out to players which they love the most.

All three of the girls had the same moments that they love. They all said that being with the team, bonding with the team, and of course, the games were their favorite moments.

Girls basketball has a young team and has five freshmen up on varsity. The five freshmen are Taylor Tomasiewicz, Karly Statter, Madison Ljunggren, Nicole Dorn, Samantha Lockwood. Because of that, Melissa Bear, a junior and other girls on the team said, “That we have a good chance to do well because of how young we are.”

It’s the start of the season, and it’s going to go by quickly, and it will be sad to see the season be over. These girls are hard workers and people should come to more of the girls’ sporting events.

Come out and support girls’ basketball November 17th at 7:00 pm against Crystal Lake South at South.
