There has been a lot of talk over the years about if we should allow video games to be as violent as they are now or if we should just ban them. I think this argument is just ridiculous because America has always been a violent country and these games aren’t affecting it.
People in every country have access to these games, so you can’t use that as an excuse for this country being violent.
Also, I don’t think it’s fair to judge companies that make these movies and games because they are just making a product that the public wants and it’s what will make them the most money.
A report by three respected academics called, ‘Understanding the Effects of Violent Video Games on Violent Crime says that there is no link between games like Grand Theft Auto or Manhunt and real life crime.
I have played violent games like Halo and Call of Duty for a very long time and my best friends share the same interest as me. Instead of getting high or drunk and causing problems like most teenagers these days we love to just hangout, play Xbox, or just go and get some wings. We all care about the bigger picture and all have good grades.
Some of my favorite memories as a kid were playing Halo 3 online with all my friends and not smoking or stealing things. I just never enjoyed the thought of that stuff.
So I would suggest that videogames are a good thing and that they actually might help kids mature.
Finally, in America since the mid 1960s, crime continually increased until around the early 1990s. Coincidentally, the very first Playstation was released in 1994, so statistics show crime has only gone down since the start of the console generation.
