Local Chicago Samaritan wins $100k Lotto while helping Sandy victims in NJ
John Turner, the owner of the National Catastrophe Solutions in Chicago, drove 17 hours from his home in the Windy City to the Storm-torn state of New Jersey last week to help victims recovering from the effects of Hurricane Sandy – and returned home $100,000 richer.
On Nov. 4, Turner, a 38-year-old Newark, New Jersey native, bought several “Championship Poker” scratch-off lottery tickets in a local convenient store while working in Neptune, NJ – One of them being the $100k Miracle.
“This is just not happening,” Turner said to CBSNewYork.com, “This is not real.”
After taxes, Turner will receive about $70,000, and plans on “investing the money into his business, a local church, and donating some [of the money] to a family in need,” Yahoo.com reports.
In a statement regarding the miraculous jackpot, New Jersey’s lottery director said, “We are very grateful that John has given his time and skills to help the people dealing with the challenges brought on by Sandy,” and by this win, “New Jersey is giving a memorable thank you back to him.”
