People think it is cool to say curse words. But have they ever considered what others might think? Or that people who are around them might get offended? Some people may think those who curse are rude, vulgar, and full of bad behaviors. People also think they lack vocabulary, and probably do not come from a good family.
Do you really want people to think like that about you? Probably not! You know that you are a good person, but people will believe what they hear and see. As humans, we have to consider people’s feelings, and some people might not care, but others will get offended.
Others yet may see you as an uneducated person. As a result, people start disrespecting you, and they do not want to listen to what you are saying.
Well, some of you might say that we have the freedom of speech! On the other hand, people have the freedom of whether or not they want to hear what others are saying! People will respond with a fight-or-flight reflex. They will give you feedback by using bad language back at you, or they may not say anything to you but think about you negatively. How would you feel if some one said the exact same words or worse than them, at you? Wouldn’t you feel hurt and insulted? Some of us will say, “those are just expressions, and we use them when we are angry.” We do tend to use curse words when we are angry. But we should not.
Cursing is not good at all! As a result of using cursing words, one may end up losing respect and being jobless too. There have been various cases of people getting fired. These days there are rules on job contracts that one cannot use bad words while being in office or while representing the company. There are many stories where employees did not get a contract or turned away customers because of their bad language. In the future, would you like to listen to your children using cursing words at you or to others? They will adopt this behavior because of you! It will be your fault because you did not stop yourself or others!
So, to all the people who use curse words, do you really want people to think about you like that? Do you really want people to think that your parents have not taught you any good manners? Or destroy your kids’ behavior or lose your job? Probably not! So, is there any solution to this? Yes, there is! Well, you do not have to clean your mouth with soap though!
There are some easy solutions, which can be easily followed! First, realize why are you cursing. It is often used when your being lazy and you lack vocabulary while you are angry and trying to express yourself. Try to learn other anger management skills. It may stop you from attempting to curse next time. Second, attempt to listen to others when they curse. Ask yourself: do you really want to sound like them? Third, learn some new words! Find alternative words, which are not swears. They still satisfy you and at the same time they get your message across! Use silly words too! Like fudge, fuzzy, or Frankenstein can replace the F-word. You might feel so silly that you might swear off swearing! Fourth, imagine being yourself surrounding by little kids and elders, or a being at a religious place! It will stop you from using those words! Fifth, punish yourself! Yes, you did read that right! Make a swear box and put a dollar every single time you swear. Or you can do a chore! Sixth, ask your family and friends to help you out! Ask them to stop you every single time you curse.
At the end of the day, you are or will be responsible for your own behavior. It is true that you will not stop swearing overnight. It takes time. Remember, practice makes perfect! Just keep practicing, and in the end, your hard work will pay off. Be more elegant, classy, well-behaved, well-mannered, well-educated, more social and posh by not using curse words.
