GSA ,or the Gay Straight Alliance, is a new club at PR that was started to create a new way to communicate with students about issues present throughout the school and the community.
The purpose of the club is to make a safe haven for students to talk about any problems they are going through, or anything they want to talk about. Everything that is said is highly confidential so people feel like they can speak without judging eyes on them. Everyone who goes is extremely friendly and welcoming and is always thinking of new ways to make a positive change on the school. It does not matter if you are gay or straight; the point of GSA is to bring people together to discuss, to resolve issues, and to make people more aware about things that are happening around them.
At one of the recent meetings, there was a giant snowball fight with pieces of crumpled paper. On the papers were problems or topics that members wanted to discuss. After throwing around the paper balls, the members sat down and somebody would grab the paper and then everyone would talk about the topic. It was a great way to think about problems, and try to help people lift up their peers rather than hurt them.
GSA generally meets every two weeks after school at 3:00 in room 318. Check the community board for announcements of upcoming meetings.
